All Settled In

well, i’m here, and i’m pretty much all set up now. we have power (and A/C!!! ), cable, internet … you know, the essentials.

my brother and i have spent a decent amount of time trying to get this place as nice as we can (on such a small budget). i think we’ve done it, save for a few minor things left to buy. i’ll post some more pictures when we get it set up all the way. the funny thing is, how we got taken to the cleaners with the lease for this place.

when we signed the lease back in May, we were told we were going to get a room on the first floor, near the front of the building, with carpeted floors. i wanted these things cause it’d be closer to class, and cooler than being on the 2nd floor. we also were scheduled to have a washer/dryer unit in our apt.

when we got here on the 17th or whenever, we were told we had a room in the back of the complex, on the 2nd floor, and we were “upgraded” to tile floors in the common areas (living room, dining room, kitchen) for the low low price of $20 a month. lucky us! also, we wouldn’t get a washer/dryer until sept.

when we cried foul on the rent increase, etc … we were basically told to “take it or leave it” because of some clause in the contract that is a nice loophole on their part. we had no choice … everything has since turned out fine. we bought some rugs for the living room, and while it kind of brings back not-so-fond memories of the sun room on channing drive, it’s not that bad.

at this point, i’m just looking forward to school getting started. i mean, it’s why we moved down here … and this sitting around thing is starting to get to me. i think i’m going to get more than i bargained for when school gets started though – i’m wondering how much free time i’ll actually have … so i guess i should just enjoy this whole sitting around thing for now. i’m really starting to like living here.

i’m going to miss family, friends, and my dog … but it’s only for a year, most likely. i think we’re headed to cocoa beach early next week, and that’ll be about it as far as plans go. it’s so flippin awesome being able to make a day trip to the beach in less than an hour.

Ok, now what?
