An Inconvenient Truth

I went to see An Inconvenient Truth on Friday night over at the Tara, and I was very impressed with it in a lot of ways. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as sometimes (most of the time actually) these films are preachy, political, and skew facts to meet their own twisted goals. On first glance, however, this movie did none of these things.

I was really impressed with the film’s presentation Al Gore is the featured speaker in this film, mixing a taped presentation he regularly makes around the world with a documentary-style glimpse into his life, why he is so passionate about global warming, and how he tries to help people to see the grave dangers we are facing. We start out by seeing what exactly global warming even is, then progress into some more science, seeing the relationship between CO2 levels in the air, and temperature. He takes this information and extrapolates further to give examples of how it affects us now, and how it can effect us in the future.

It’s a very chilling (or lack thereof) glimpse into a place not many people are going to want to live in. Between water shortages, rising sea levels, extinctions, diseases and a host of other direct results of global warming, you leave feeling pretty convinced this is a very serious issue. Oddly enough, one of the things that struck me the most was this: Al Gore actually has a personality! I don’t know when this exactly happened, but he seemed very relaxed, funny at times, and well spoken about a subject he knows a lot about.

Where was this man in 2000 Oh well. In any event, I really recommend you check this movie out. It’s not political, preachy, nor does it beat you over the head with tons of statistics.

Mr. Gore puts the facts into an easy to understand easy to watch format. You leave impressed with the film, but equally disturbed and committed to find a way to make a difference … because we’re headed towards some serious problems if we don’t make changes in our energy consumption, stat.

Ok, now what?
