I don’t know if there are any Newsvine readers out there, but if you spend any time at all reading The New York Times, CNN, ESPN, or really any major news service, this is a good place for you. It is a social news site, that pushes articles that are voted on by other members to the ‘top’, much like Digg.com or reddit.com does. You can also subscribe to ‘tags’, and have those show up on a custom news page that only shows articles related to say, Atlanta, or football, or anything in between.
Most of these social-type news sites seem to cater to younger audiences, or the tech crowd. For obvious reasons, this can be quite a turn-off to most people. Fortunately, Newsvine (at least up to this point) has avoided to really be associated with that type of gang.
Another great thing about the site is that anyone can contribute news or op/ed type articles to the site. These are also up for voting, so well-written essays by members of the site can be found alongside breaking news from CNN or opinion pieces from the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal. Anyway, Newsvine recently relaunched, adding dozens of new improvements to an already fantastic site.
I recommend you check it out – poke around and read not only the mainstream news on there, but the columns by the contributors to the site. Any newsviners can find my account here. If you’re a member, add me as a friend.
