Posted on: March 5th, 2011 by Daniel 3 Comments I’m definitely impressed with the iPad 2. I’m amazed that they made a device that was already extremely thin even smaller – thinner than an iPhone 4. The new magnetic, auto-on/off case functionality is amazing as well. Add to that the speed improvements and what appears to be even better build quality (a more unibody look vs. the current ‘glass set in an aluminum case’ look) and you’ve got yourself a very compelling update. However.
I feel like I just got my iPad – it still feels brand new to me and I can’t imagine a scenario where I’d pay for an upgrade at this point. If you were waiting to buy an iPad to see what they’d do for round 2, I think you’re going to be extremely happy. But if you already own one, the only reason I can honestly think of upgrading for is if you’re just hurting for space on your device and want to get a 32 or 64gb version.
As I own the 64gb WiFi, that’s not really a problem for me at all. Heck, I’m only using 12gb of space on my iPad right now. In fairness, I’ll definitely scour eBay and see what 64gb iPads are selling for.
If I were able to sell mine for enough to upgrade to a 32gb iPad 2 without paying anything ($600 tax), I’d do it. Since I can’t imagine I could get that much for a device that retailed for $699 a year ago, I’ll be staying put until the 3rd revision is out.
