January 11th, 2009 One of the things that I think bothers me the most about using Twitter applications (not named Twitterific) is the fact that when you load the app, it always shows you the most recent post, regardless of which post you read last. If you follow more than 20 or so people, you find yourself backtracking constantly trying to find where you left off. Twitterific for the iPhone and for the Mac both keep your ‘last viewed’ tweet, but it does not sync this information with any other applications.
This means that if you use Twitterific for the Mac but another application on your iPhone (or other device), this really doesn’t do you a lot of good. My current favorite twitter app, Tweetie, has this problem and the developer has also pointed out this flaw in the API as well. Honestly, it doesn’t even have to be an API solution.
Upon quitting the app, applications could sync the most recently viewed post ID via a 3rd party server and keep things fairly basic, yet it would work pretty well. Hopefully this is something that we see officially from the Twitter folks eventually, but a workaround like that would go a long way to making the user experience even more fantastic. Welcome!
